Kenrick Nursery is established.

1794

Founded by John Kenrick, it is located on Nonantum Hill on the border of today’s Brighton and Newton. The first commercial nursery in the Boston area, it is also the first large horticultural business in New England. Kenrick’s plantings are described as “the finest in America” by the New England Farmer magazine in 1823. He produces his first catalogue in 1832 and retires in 1856.
